After a week of shadow-boxing, the Tour reached the Pyrenees today.

Back by popular demand, Gazzetta dello Sport’s Ciro Scogamiglio joined our regular podcasters Richard Moore, Daniel Friebe and Lionel Birnie to review the first mountain stage of the Tour de France.

Being a true pro, Ciro was still filing his story for the following day’s newspaper during the chat but he added his unique perspective to the day’s events.

After a week of shadow-boxing, the Tour reached the Pyrenees with the eighth stage from Castres to Ax-3-Domaines. And what a great day it was, with Sky’s Chris Froome and Richie Porte putting everyone on the back foot with two weeks still to go.

Today we assess the winners and losers from the day, ask what can be done to combat Sky and look forward to the second Pyrenean stage on Sunday.

We also remind you how to win a phone call from Garmin-Sharp’s David Millar on the rest day and offer the chance to win a copy of the Tour de France-themed edition of The Cycling Anthology if you can predict the winner of Sunday’s stage.

Listen right to the end to find out which rider looks like he’s trying to lick soup off his chin when he’s climbing…
